DESCRIPTION:Bring your lawn chairs and join us for a riveting presentation titled "The Sinking of the Steamboat Lexington\," the first in our Lighthouse Lecture Series beginning at 2pm on July 8 on the grounds of Horton Point Lighthouse.\n\nAuthor Bill Bleyer will tell the harrowing story of a ship's journey from glory to tragedy. The Steamboat Lexington was one of the most prestigious steamships on the heavily trafficked Long Island Sound but\, in 1840\, a fire broke out on the ship igniting poorly placed bales of cotton which destroyed the ship in minutes. The incident would be the worst maritime disaster in Long Island history. Come learn more at this free lecture. Rain date 2pm\, July 9.\n\n**And mark your calendars for Aug. 5 at 2pm\, when Ray Nofi presents "History of the Holland Submarine\," the second in our Summer Lecture series.
